How can I check that LibKey and BrowZine are working in my instance of the NHS Knowledge Hub? Why do particular buttons appear against different results?
LibKey Discovery enhances the NHS Knowledge and Library Hub in several ways. Throughout Autumn 2021, the suppliers of LibKey (Third Iron) implemented LibKey into all instances of the NHS Knowledge and Library Hub. LibKey works with the holdings for each instance that are maintained in the EBSCO link resolver (HLM). You can ensure that LibKey has been correctly installed by checking that the following enhancements are working through your instance of the NHS Knowledge and Library Hub: Journal Cover Art In your list of results in the NHS Knowledge Hub, you should notice that most (not all) journals have cover art - this makes your results page look more colourful and user-friendly: Get PDF Links If you have full-text access to an article, in many cases you should notice a "Get PDF" link - this uses LibKey to provide a one-click link to the PDF of an article: When you click on the Get PDF link, the article should appear. Please note that the Get PDF link will not appear for all full-text articles. EBSCO full text-content is provided through a different PDF button: Some full-text articles do not have a one-click PDF button at all. This is usually because the journal is neither compatible with LibKey nor EBSCO content. In those cases you should still see an Access Item button - this will often link you back to the publisher's website to access the full-text: Reminder - if you do not have full text access to an article, you should see a button to request the item - this should link to an interlibrary loan request form: View Complete Issue Links If you have full-text access to a journal, you should see the BrowZine "view complete issue" button appearing in the results page. If you click on this link it will take you to the issue of the journal in BrowZine that contains the relevant article: Browse Journals On the blue bar at the top of the screen on the NHS Knowledge and Library Hub, you should see a link to Browse Journals. This will take you through to the BrowZine instance for your service and should contain the journals in your local holdings as well as the nationally purchased content: If you don't think that LibKey has been set-up correctly in your instance of the NHS Knowledge and Library Hub please log a ticket with the Hub service desk.

How are LibKey and BrowZine links kept up to date in the Knowledge and Library Hub?
The 'Get PDF' and 'View Complete Issue' buttons in the Knowledge and Library Hub are generated by LibKey. LibKey holds a record of a library's holdings and uses that data to determine whether to display these buttons. The holdings data held by LibKey comes from EBSCO. LibKey is updated from EBSCO holdings every week. The data is captured on a Monday and LibKey will reflect the changes on the followingThursday. This means that there will be a lag between you making changes in EBSCO’s Holdings Management and links appearing in the Knowledge and Library Hub. Please bear this in mind when checking links. In exceptional circumstances, Third Iron is able to manually update single specific journal titles, or a couple of journal titles, on request. Please log a request for this. If the changes are more substantial such as the addition of a new package or significant changes to a particular collection, you can send your full holdings to Third Iron and ask for a full manual update. To do this, please follow this process. The process should only take a few minutes to generate the holdings file, and can typically be processed by Third Iron within 48 hours.

How do I implement LibKey Link in PubMed?
Registering for Outside Tool (otool) from PubMed If your library is NOT already set up with Outside Tool (otool) from PubMed, you’ll need to complete a short registration so that PubMed can link to your library’s holdings from their records. Outside Tool (otool) allows PubMed to show full-text access to your library’s holdings on its records. You can register for otool and implement LibKey Link in the same process. Registering your library’s otool can be done in three steps: Gather information for the registration form (see below for an explanation) Submit the completed form to NIH’s Help Desk. Use the subject line “Request to set up an Outside Tool” Paste your completed form into the “Description” section Place your unique PubMed link on your library’s website wherever you link to PubMed. NIH will provide your library with its own unique PubMed link in an email after your library has been successfully registered. This is the link libraries should use on their website to direct users to PubMed, not the generic PubMed URL. Otool Registration Form PubMed requires the following information to register otool: 1. Base URL of your local service This is your LibKey base URL, provided in your Third Iron Welcome email. If you do not have your LibKey base URL, you can ask the NHS Knowledge and Library Hub Service Desk what it is. 2. Test URLs 2 URLs for articles the library has full-text access for 2 URLs for articles that the library does not have full-text access to, and would need to request through Interlibrary Loan You can create these URLs by adding the PubMed ID to the end of this base URL: https://libkey.io/libraries/{Your Third Iron ID}/{PubMedID} Example: https://libkey.io/libraries/1391/pmid/29370536 Note: Using LibKey Nomad makes it easy to find PubMed IDs for both kinds of test links. When searching PubMed, look for two articles with “Download PDF” or “Article Link” LibKey Nomad buttons- these are articles users can access in your collections. Then, look for two articles with inline buttons that say “Access Options”. These are articles outside of your library’s collections. 3. Temporary Username and Password for password-protected access OpenAccess test credentials can be obtained through the NHS Knowledge and Library Hub Service Desk if you do not have some test credentials to share. 4. Institution name, postal address and phone number 5. Contact person name and email address. Optional: group email address Use the information of the staff member who is managing otool registration- usually the Library Manager or E-Resources Librarian. 6. URL of the Outside Tool icon to be displayed in PubMed Use https://client-integrations.s3.amazonaws.com/libkey_link_icon/LibKeyIcon.png 7. URL of your institution Help page Libraries can use their About or Home pages. 8. Short label that identifies your institution 9. If your institution has a LinkOut account, please provide the NameAbbr (username) Leave as N/A unless your library has a LinkOut account. If your library IS already set up with Outside Tool (otool) from PubMed Log into the administrator panel and, in the Base URL field, replace your link resolver link with your unique PubMed LibKey Link URL. This is included in your Third Iron welcome email; if you do not have your PubMed LibKey Link URL, you can ask the NHS Knowledge and Library Hub Service Desk what it is.

How does LibKey prioritise full-text access to articles?
To provide LibKey best source linking, Third Iron’s systems process key information including: Journal holdings information Article Open Access availability Article Version of Record status and alternate version location Article retraction status and reasons for retraction Advanced knowledge of aggregator availability LibKey uses proprietary AI-based technology to dynamically process these key data points to create the best link to content for millions of articles, from thousands of journals, across hundreds of publishers, and multiple platforms. LibKey determines the best link for each article and informs the user of important information such as when an article has been retracted or when it is not the version of record. The best link order is as follows: Version of record (VOR) article availability from the original publisher VOR from aggregators Non-VOR article link (Note, non-VOR article links are clearly signposted as non-VOR). LibKey will also link the user back to the library Link Resolver/ILL request form where no apparent source for the article is available. Due to the challenge of signposting non-VOR articles they are treated slightly differently across products in the ThirdIron range. LibKey Link (which provides the linking in the Knowledge and Library Hub and databases) does not include non VOR materials Browzine by virtue of being focussed predominantly on your subscribed content does not include non VOR materials LibKey Nomad does include a wider range of non VOR materials and hence may return an article that did not appear in Hub results INCDocs will not include non VOR materials

How can I use LibKey Link in Google Scholar for my NHS Organisation?
LibKey Link has been integrated into Google Scholar for all NHS organisations in England. This will allow NHS staff and students to access full-text articles from the national core content and local holdings in Google Scholar. It will reflect the holdings within HLM (link resolver) for your NHS organisation. Using LibKey Link in Google Scholar Go to Google Scholar Go the menu option on the left hand side and select Settings Select Library links from the settings options: Enter the name of your organisation - the example below shows Health Education England, but type in the name of your organisation instead Select the name of your organisation and then click the tick box to confirm the selection Leave Open WorldCat selected and click Save . Now when you search Google Scholar, your full text holdings will appear next to relevant articles. It will be displayed as "Full text @ My library" Please advise your library users to follow this process when using Google Scholar to ensure that they have access to your full-text content. LibKey Nomad Please note that if you have LibKey Nomad installed with the correct organisation selected, Google Scholar will automatically affiliate to the correct organisation. You shouldn't need to follow the steps above as it should work automatically! If you have any difficulties with this please log a ticket with the service desk.

How do I find print journals in BrowZine?
BrowZine's key function is to provide simple and consistent access to your e-journal collection. However you can loop back to EBSCO's "Publication Finder" via BrowZine to show print journal collections, if you have them switched on correctly in HLM. In this example, we can see that a library has the British Journal of Dermatology in print from 2006-2018 - it is switched on in HLM as part of the local print collection: When looking at the BrowZine instance for this library, we can find the journal "British Journal of Dermatology" - as there is no online access we get a link to Publication Finder where the print collection holdings are displayed. Checking for British Journal of Hospital Medicine in Browzine we find an online holding - at the foot of the list is a "see all" option When you click on "see all" you are taken to EBSCO's "Publication Finder" which shows all access options, including any print access:
