Can I upload articles to AI tools like ChatGPT or Copilot for analysis?

No. This is not permitted under current NHS CLA licence terms.*

Uploading articles to third-party AI tools would breach copyright, even for articles you have legitimate access to.

Legislation affecting these rules is currently being discussed in parliament but until further notice, uploading to third-party AI tools is forbidden.

There may be some articles published under Creative Commons CC BY-SA or Public Domain content which can be used if cited.

*CLA have confirmed that that generative AI is not covered by the NHS CLA Licence. Authored work that you do not own the copyright to or have the permission to upload or sits within the public domain. The text and data mining (TDM) exception is still in place to support non-commercial research.
