How to access and use the e-Resources usage statistics dashboards to benchmark my organisation
NHS England has 6 dashboards in showing usage statistics for the following e-resources:
- NHS knowledge Hub total fulltext and linkout requests
- BMJ Best Practice page impressions
- OpenAthens account totals, OpenAthens accounts as a percentage of total FTEs and percentage of OpenAthens accounts with unique successful authentications
- LibKey total requests
- Royal Marsden Manual of Clinical Nursing Procedures total item requests
- Maudsley Prescribing Guidelines in Psychiatry total item requests
The dashboards are on separate tabs in an Excel file available from the NHS Knowledge for Healthcare Futures workspace. You will need to register for NHS Futures and then join the workspace.
The dashboards are updated a month in arrears. They show you your organisation's usage data and allow you to compare your data against that of other organisations.
Each dashboard is divided into three sections:
- Totals chart for selected organisation(s)
- The raw data in a pivot table
- Comparison chart for selected organisation(s)
Charts and pivot table adjust dynamically with your filter selections. Totals are shown by month. Check the chart legend for the year each column represents.
When you select your organisation, the OpenAthens totals chart will also show OpenAthens accounts as a percentage of organisational total FTEs and the percentage of OpenAthens accounts with unique successful authentications.
How do I benchmark my organisation against others?
1. Remove any filtering that may have been selected. Look for a red cross against the funnel symbol. Click it to remove any filtering.
2. Select your own organisation from the blue 'Your organisation' filter. Your organisation's totals will appear as a line on the chart and also in the pivot table. It will also appear as a blue line on the comparison chart,
3. If you know of organisations which are similar to your own, select them from the orange 'Compared to these organisations' filter. To select more than one, select one organisation and then press 'crtl' to select up to four more. The first five you select will appear as lines on the comparison chart and will show totals.
Check the legend to see which line represents each organisation. If you select more than five, a single orange line will display showing the average totals for the selected organisations.
4. Alternatively, find the organisational type and tier for your organisation and select the same in the 'Compared to these organisational types' and 'Compared to these organisational tiers' filters. If you need to see similar organisations in your region, select your region in the 'Compared to these regions' filter.
These will show as an average of totals across all selected organisations.
