How does INCDocs change my previous practices?
You no longer request from your own region first, and then others, according to the INC scheme rota.
INCDocs displays a link to the item if it is available to you immediately because it's a local or national subscription, or open access.
Failing that it randomly seeks a potential supplying library anywhere in the country. This could be outside of your own region, even if another library in your own region could supply it. This randomisation ensures load balancing across the country.
The INC scheme regional catalogues/systems (EDEN, KSS catalogue, LAWMUNION for LENDS and MIDS, PANDDA, SWIMS) will be maintained after go-live for the foreseeable future until the impact of INCDocs has been reviewed. If you have a request turned down a few times it may be helpful to check the previous holdings list and reporting the issue to the Service Desk.
We are considering options longer term for how to continue to resource sharing with libraries in our regional collaborative schemes but outside the NHS. This includes whether we will continue to produce a spreadsheet of holdings.
Regarding other resource sharing schemes such as NULJ and PLCS, the managers will be reviewing the impact of INCDocs on their schemes and will make decisions in due course.
We are working to develop analytics from INCDocs but you are likely to still need to manage most of the ILL process within your existing systems.
