How can a Return to Practice participant register for NHS OpenAthens?
People on a Return to Practice programme are encouraged to self-register for an NHS OpenAthens account so that they have access to digital knowledge resources that can help them refresh their skills. These include:
Returnees can self-register for an account here.
Return to Practice participants should complete the form as follows:
• Enter their name and email – it is fine to use a personal email address for RTP
• Enter the organisation as “NHS England”
• In the “full work/placement address” box enter “RTP [your unique ID number]”
• In “department, ward, GP practice or clinic” enter “RTP”
• Job role – select the nearest to their profession or group
• Position duration – enter the expected end date of the course
• Agree the terms and conditions, and click Register
Please note there will be a short delay as the application will need to be manually approved by the Knowledge Management team, who are administrators for HEE accounts. For help with any problems, contact England.KnowledgeManagement@nhs.net.
What happens when a returnee moves into NHS employment?
Once a returnee moves into full NHS employment, they can update their account by logging in and changing the organisation name to their employer and updating the email address to the NHS one. This will ensure they have access to locally purchased content, the account expiry date is extended, and there is someone local to help with any problems.
