What can I change on my EDS / Hub profile?
All local Knowledge and Library Hub EDS profiles should look and behave consistently, to enable all end-users to have a common experience when moving from one Hub instance to another. Some local customisation is still permitted to provide for a better local end-user experience.
Functionality that can be customised:
- Top navigation bar (all Hub pages):
- Hub home page - bottom branding
- Hub results page - right-hand column
-
Default library limiter - if you have a merged LMS then you can select that only your print and ebooks are returned by default as part of the wider search results. This can reduce the number of books in search results. Please raise a ticket for assistance.
-
Widget buttons: additional widget buttons can be added, please see the FAQ How can I add a widget to my instance of the NHS Library and Knowledge Hub?
-
RSS feeds from X (formerly Twitter) can be added to the right-hand column on the search results page. Please request this via the Service Desk however note that tweets are only shown if the user is logged in to twitter so we do not recommend it.
-
MeSH terms that display on the right-hand side of the results screen can be turned off - please raise a ticket with the Service Desk.
-
Images that display at the top on the right-hand side of the results screen can be turned off - please raise a ticket
Functionality that cannot be customised:
-
Guest access should remain on
-
Search box should not be modified
-
Colour scheme should not be modified
-
Publication slider and year options below cannot be modified
-
Trust logo on the results page should not be modified unless the name of the trust has changed (if this is the case, please log this change request with the Service Desk)
-
Text for link buttons e.g. Get PDF, Access Item cannot be modified
-
App store buttons cannot be displayed (they're not visible with our bottom branding coding)
Additional extras that can be added (some are free, others will cost local services to implement):
- Institutional repositories can be added (at a cost). Please raise a ticket with the service desk if this is something you'd like to explore.
- An Ask A Librarian instant messaging app is available that allows librarians to chat digitally with end users through EDS (this is separate to the Ask a Librarian email functionality that has been set up nationally), - at a cost. Please contact us for more information.
- For subscribers to Libguides, it is possible to create up to 10 placards to display at the top of the results page that provide further information on specific topics linked to specified search terms e.g. you may want to include library opening hours or links to specialist databases. please request this on the Service Desk.
