How are search results ranked on the NHS Knowledge and Library Hub?
Search results are ranked using EBSCO’s relevance algorithm. Items will appear higher up in a results list if the search term matches frequently with EBSCO’s metadata and the item’s full-text. If the matches appear in certain fields then they are weighted as being more important than others. These weighted fields include:
- Subject heading
- Title
- Author-supplied keywords
- Abstract
- Authors
- Full-text
Integrated LMS records and those from NHS repositories such as Amber and WMER are given additional weight but we do not apply the additional boost that could be added as this can result in these results being too dominant.
For more information, see EBSCO's FAQ on how relevance ranking is determined in EBSCO Discovery Service.
